"In pre-historic times, winter was a very difficult time for Aboriginal people in the northern latitudes. The growing season had ended and the tribe had to live off of stored food and whatever animals they could catch. The people would be troubled as the life-giving sun sank lower in the sky each noon. They feared that it would eventually disappear and leave them in permanent darkness and extreme cold. After the winter solstice, they would have reason to celebrate as they saw the sun rising and strengthening once more. Although many months of cold weather remained before spring, they took heart that the return of the warm season was inevitable. The concept of birth and or death/rebirth became associated with the winter solstice."

Drumming, Yoga and Chanting in the Ancient Bee Priestess Tradition

Project Butterfly invites you to join Layne Redmond for a unique gathering of Drumming, Yoga and Chanting in the Ancient Bee Priestess Tradition.

We will be Chanting, overtone singing, and humming sacred sounds to the rhythms of the frame drum. This is an ancient technique for directly synchronizing the mind/body, creating conditions for psychological, physical, and spiritual healing. The ancient Bee Priestesses, called the Melissa in Greek, or the Deborahs in Hebrew, served the Bee Goddesses: Aphrodite, Artemis, Cybele, Demeter, Persephone, Neith, all associated with the frame drum!!

The seven realms of consciousness emanate from the first sound -- the pulse of the cosmic drum -- the heartbeat of the goddess! The Maha Devi or Great Goddess, Kundalini, manifests in sound form as a queen bee surrounded by bees known as Bhramari Devi, who awakens in a buzz of ascending consciousness and descending spiritual grace. This ascending buzzing energy illuminates the chakras which are interconnected with areas of the brain that are silent in the unawakened state. The brain explodes into awareness as these dormant areas are activated.

Many of the bee priestesses functioned as oracles. The drumming, humming, and pranayama practices traditionally are said to develop the oracular aspect of the mind. In the ancient world the oracle was a highly valued and honored position. The Pythia, the oracle at Delphi, was one of the most powerful positions in the ancient Greek world for over 1000 years.

This gathering will open with the drumming of Layne Redmond and her senior students and then we will explore these ancient practices through chanting, overtone singing, humming practices, and a slide lecture on the practices of the drumming bee priestesses who served the Bee Goddesses.

You are invited to a Sacred Breath Circle in celebration of a very auspicious evening, 8/8/08. A day bounded by 8’s is a most favorable configuration within the collective consciousness of the consensus. Eight represents energy, vitality, affluence and prosperity.

This Healing event will be focused primarily on Prosperity and what it means to each of us as individuals. The word "Prosperity" originates from the Latin word "Prosperus" which means "Doing Well". We will be using the timing of this event to really get clear and focused on what "Doing Well" means for us at this moment in time and what we need to do to begin to experience this for ourselves. We might just find that we are already Prosperous and that it is our old thought patterns and projections that are keeping us from seeing what is real.

We will work at clearing these beliefs and self destructive thought patterns using the greatest healing tools we possess, our Breath and our Intention.

BREATH WORK

This healing modality is fundamentally concerned with energizing the body through the use of an ancient breathing technique. The cultivated energy is then guided by the healer through intuition, oils, touch, sound, psychic means etc, to areas which are energetically blocked. The energy then moves through these blocks, clearing the channels, while empowering and activating our innate self healing potential. Clarity, Integration, Peace, Remembrance.

You are invited to the launch of a very special event, entitled Healing LA. Healing LA’s aim is to present different alternative healing modalities in a safe and intimate space.
This is an opportunity for our guests to get an intimate hands-on experience with different practitioners skilled in these different modalities.

In this time of Great Change, these modalities offer openings that can only aid and benefit our mind, body and soul.

Experience (2) different modalities for $40 and soak up the love and the healings at the Project Butterfly Loft in Downtown LA.

Information on Tantra by Charu & Kay Moonstar.

Tantra offers that we are all orgasmic beings...not that we can 'have
orgasms' once in a while, but that orgasm is actually our natural state of being. We do not experience this in our lives often because we are holding tensions in our body due to un-felt or repressed experiences.

Much of the work of the Tantric meditations serves to unlock the body to make way for this free-flow of energy...the life-force energy that could also be referred to as orgasm.

Join Charu and discover Tantra in this experiential class. Wake up to an entirely new perspective on life and sexuality and how your 'sexual' energy is the most powerful force for transformation. Without an embracing and understanding of our sexuality we are often left fragmented as we grasp to discover ourselves.

We will explore a myriad of active meditations adapted from ancient texts and modern teachings. This is a path of meditation, an invitation to wake up to the bliss of this present moment. What sets this path apart from other spiritual paths is its emphasis on awakening through the senses. By coming back to the wisdom of the body, we open to the truth within ourselves and integrate it on a cellular level.

We will explore meditations which enable us to connect deeply with our bodies and our hearts. We also use practices to share this deeper connection with each other. We are then able to experience ourselves and each other in a more profound way, as we embody the deeper levels of truth and love within us.

We invite you to our fourth Sunday Session of 2008: a premiere screening of the documentary “Universal Hip Hop” produced and directed by Wilpower from the legendary LA breakdancing crew, the Air Force Crew. This evening will be hosted by the world renowned artist Justin Bua!

Wilpower presents a very unique mission, one that is lost amidst the media distortion of what hip hop truly represents, rather than bling bling, hip hop is a voice of an urban generation that deals with art, community, politics, style and of course music. Many urban youths have found salvation, hope and success through the manifestation of the different elements of hip hop. This documentary travels the world in search of true hip hop.

Wilpower, a break dancing legend in his own right and a true independent filmmaker, captures very candid and real moments with b-boys and b-girls the world over.

Wilpower has started an organization entitled We Are Helping. We Are Helping is dedicated to make a difference in peoples lives by providing school supplies, clothing, food and inspiration to those less fortunate. Wilpower originally from El Salvador is contributing a percentage of each DVD sold to this cause in El Salvador and in South Africa.

Tonight we will have the opportunity to support Wilpower on his mission and to get inspired by his new film.

Our Featured Artist and host is the one & only Justin Bua.

We invite you to our third Sunday Session of 2008: an evening of Shamanic Sound Healing with Richard Grossman [www.soundjourney.com ]

Dr. Richard Grossman is the musician and healer who will set this healing journey in motion. A Doctor of Oriental Medicine for over 20 years, Richard has explored healing from physical, energetic and deeply spiritual points of view. His own journeys have taken him around the world in the pursuit of healing wisdom, and he has studied with spiritual teachers and native healers from North and South America, Mexico, Europe, Africa, India, China, Japan and Tibet.

The Sound Journey is a shamanic journey initiated in the oldest sense by the extraordinary, consciousness-altering magic of sound. Instruments include didgeridoos, a 38 inch gong, various mouth harps, voice, flutes, ocarina, harmonica, and more, all played in a unique style designed to induce a state of deep healing and inner journeying.

Richard recently performed an abbreviated version of this journey at our Vanishing of the Bees fundraiser in January. We feel very fortunate and honored to have him come back for a full version.

Our doors will open at 7pm and the The Sound Journey will begin at 8pm sharp [please arrive on time as doors will close at 8pm]. For this event we encourage all of our guests to bring pillows and blankets as we will be on the floor.
